SERONOKNYA DIA MAKAN KEDARAH DUITThe government has spent more than RM17 million for trips made by prime minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor since 2008, with one-third of the amount being spent in the first six months of this year alone.
BON VOYAGE ... Najib and Rosmah's travel bill for the first six months this year is more than the whole of 2009 and 2010.
In a written reply to Batu member of parliament Tian Chua at the Dewan Rakyat, a list of expenditure for trips by the duo showed some RM5.4 million was spent in the first six months of this year alone, more than the trips for the whole of last year.
The breakdown for the past three years is given as follows:
2008 - RM1,739,332.85
2009 - RM4,811,837.48
2010 - RM5,140,307.99
Jan-June 2011 - RM5,427,172.26
Tian Chua had wanted to know details of the cost of official trips by both Najib and his deputy Muhyiddin Yasin, and their respective spouses.
As for Muhyiddin and his wife Noorainee Abdul Rahman, the government took care of costs amounting to RM8,020,328.07.
Pakatan Rakyat MPs had questioned the cost of the three-day trip to Turkey by Rosmah in her capacity as the 'First Lady', a title still disputed by several law experts. Rosmah was accompanied by Women, Family and Community Development minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Earlier, the parliament was told that RM134,317.76 was spent to cover Rosmah's expenses during her trip to Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bangladesh, following criticism that she had spent RM140,000 for an overnight stay at Dubai's luxury hotel Atlantis.
