ICAC adopted our law and learnt from us?

Baca kenyataan akhbar di bawah :
Apa peranan BPR- menjadi barua kepada UMNO atau menjalankan tugas membasmikan rsauah tanpa memilih bulu?

I truly love this piece of news. It is published today at The Star, page N24, Nation.

TheStar Journo, Lourdes Charles had a Q & A session with the current Director-general of ACA, Datuk Ahmad Said Hamdan and below are abstract of his views. (Note: His views are italic-highlighted and the rest are honest opinions.)

"Ever since I assumed the post (of D-G), I must say that :
public perception towards my department is much better. I can assure you that ACA is going to be more open so that the public can judge for themselves whether we have done our job within the confines of the law".

Fantastic, isn't it! We can look towards a more open and transparent ACA. However, Ahmad Said said: '...ACA is going to be...'. When? Immediately or at a later stage?

"We have been a victim of wrong perception. There is corruption in society but we are not a corrupt society."

We are not a corrupt society? Then, how is a corrupt society defined? Would it means that 90% of the population are corrupt or 50%? If Tan Sri Hanif said 90% of police are corrupt, then how do we classify the society as? Half corrupt or segmentally corrupt? Aren't most of our ministers corrupt if their asset is worth more than their 25-years of income? Just conduct a valuation of their mansion and you will find most of them have a house that is worth more than $10mil.

"To say the ICAC in Hong Kong is feared and better is incorrect. In fact, they adopted our laws and learnt from us. We have a better track record than them in terms of prosecuting prominent figures and I don't think there is any other agency in this region that has taken action against top officials more than us."

I truly love this piece. ICAC and Hong Kong government adopted our laws and learnt from us??? Hahaha... I love to believe it but my stomach becomes nausea-tic.

We have a better track record then all agency in this region - Malaysia is No.1 in taking actions against prominent figures (politicians and ministers???). I love that. Malaysia beat Singapore in this. There aren't many cases of Singaporean Ministers and top-ranking civil servants being charged for corruption for whatever reasons. We also beat Japan and Korea. I am not sure if we beat China or Indonesia in this aspect. But I am not proud that our ACA holds the record for having to indict prominent figures for corruption, for it's fait accompli. Res Ipsa Locquitur!

"I would also like to put Malaysia among the top 30 countries in the world that is corrupt free."

That is a tough call. In the earlier part of this interview, Ahmad Said had said that "Corruption is worldwide and is recognized as a crime and is most difficult to tackle. In fact, we can say in generality that there is no country that do not face this problem of corruption. So the world can't be corrupt free. There are countries that are least corrupt in comparison to the others. To be top 30 in the world for the least corrupt, it is a tall order. It is mission impossible... it is as if to ask too much from our Ministers and political leaders, and of course, our police, customs, land officers, judges and prosecutors; [period].

This is a different article. I just love the caption. How nice if its true. But, it will remain just a dream, a mid-summer night dream.Somehow, it's more of the fact that many categories of corruption are now remolded and recasted and creatively renamed. We now have consultancy fees, finding fees, UMNO building funds, entertainment expenditures, goodwills, etc, etc. We are ok... semua ok! Raja Petra must be musing over this piece...

Selamat mengerjakan Ibadah Puasa semoga mendapat hidayah dan kebahagiaan dunia dan akhirat. Selamat menyambut Aidil Fitri-maaf zahir dan batin.
